Next Step Connections Annual Party and Charity event

Next Step Connection’s Annual Networking Event Contributes to the Community

Next Step Connections further integrated their global career development program for students with social responsibility leader Shanghai Roots and Shoots.

SHANGHAI (July 2010) — On June 24, 2010 Next Step Connections, China’s leading global professional education organization connecting students and international career development opportunities, held the company’s annual networking event in Shanghai. The evening, in partnership with Shanghai Roots and Shoots, served as a memorable experience with a theme of contributing to the community.

“Next Step Connections is a bridge for the global community. The internship experience not only furthers international career development, but also integrates students in the center of global expansion, Shanghai. By partnering with Shanghai Roots and Shoots, we hope to expand on the significant positive impact our programs have on the community around us,” noted Jerome Le Carrou, founder of Next Step Connections.

The Shanghai Roots and Shoots Million Tree Program was selected as the beneficiary charity and partner for the event, based on the organization’s vision and impact. The goal of the Million Tree Project is to plant one million trees by 2014. As of April 2010, 400,000 trees have been planted and have demonstrated an impressive survival rate of over 91%.

“The event that Next Step Connections held was awesome and I love that they collaborated with a charity like Roots and Shoots.  It helps remind young people like me the importance of the environmental troubles that face our generation. “ said Michelle Chan, a Pepperdine Graduate student, Intern with Next Step Connections.

With the combined efforts of Next Step Connections and Shanghai Roots and Shoots, the event contributed nearly 200 trees to the deforested area of Kunlun Qi in Inner Mongolia. Over the course of its lifetime, each tree will clear the air of 250 kg of CO2. By 2014, Next Step Connections in partnership with Shanghai Roots and Shoots will offset over 50% of the CO2 produced by interns traveling to China.

Next Step Connections First Ever Charity Event to Benefit The Million Tree Project

Thursday, June 24th, 2010—Professional internship program organization, Next Step Connections (NSC), hosted their annual networking event for their company partners and young professionals at the Velvet Lounge.  This China-based company was founded in 2007 and has since helped over 300 students and young professionals begin their careers through hands-on, real-life, and studies-related internship programs.
The meet-and-greet event hosted by NSC brought this year’s participating companies and young professionals together to enjoy a night of celebration and to meet others in the program.  This year, NSC decided to turn this event to a benefit for the first time ever and selected Shanghai Roots & Shoots as its charity partner.  The charity event benefited Shanghai Roots & Shoots’ The Million Tree Project in which RMB 25 of every attendee’s ticket price was donated to purchase one tree in Kulun Qi, Inner Mongolia.

The night was a great success and 150 people attended the event, bringing the total amount raised by NSC to RMB 3,750.  During the evening, many attendees, both company representatives and young people alike, stopped by the Shanghai Roots & Shoots booth to learn more about the Million Tree Project’s efforts to stop desertification and lower overall carbon dioxide emissions in China.  After hearing more about the devastating environmental problems, several attendees wanted to make a larger contribution and purchased additional trees.  At the end of the night, the event helped to secure 186 trees (150 trees from the event, plus 36 trees from additional donations) for the 2011 planting site.

Thank you very much to Next Step Connections and their generous help for The Million Tree Project!

Next Step Connections speaks to ISG Paris Students

Next Step Connections recently played host to a speaker’s event attended by over 60 students from Paris’ International School of Management who are currently in Shanghai as part of their 6 weeks study abroad stop in China.

NSC’s founders, Jerome Le Carrou, Francois Liot and Len Hayashi highlighted the benefits of an internship with Next Step Connections through presentations, videos and testimonials shared by previous interns. All three founders were interns at some point in their lives and the experience played vital roles in their current successes with Next Step Connections. In less than a year, NSC has tripled the number of interns coming to China, an impressive feat for a young company.

In addition to the founders of Next Step Connections,Shanghai Liaison officer for the Sovereign Group,  Sunny Liew, was also present to share his thoughts and views on China as the emerging economy giant. Sunny pointed out the importance of China in the modern world and brought up excellent points in regards to where students fit in the China’s rapid growth and expansion, discouraging them from limiting themselves only to Europe and instead focus on China as the leader of Asia’s economy and take part in it. Sunny also recommends taking it one step further by learning the Chinese language.

Living and working in China presents its own set of challenges and rewards that cannot be found anywhere else. Techniques may not be embraced as quickly here, due to the fact that China is deeply rooted in its own culture. The Chinese are, however, generally curious. Hence, the manner to which methods are delivered in China is a valuable skill that needs to be honed through spending a considerable amount of time in the country. For students, there really is no better way to experience this than through an internship.

For foreigners, living in China may seem daunting at first, this is why at Next Step Connections, we make sure our participants are well taken care of in other aspects of their daily lives, allowing them to concentrate on your internship and immersing themselves in the culture, in order to get the most of the experience.

For those who are not yet convinced on the amount of influence China has in the world, Sunny recommends reading up on books about China.

In conclusion and to put it  bluntly: If you don’t come to China, you wouldn’t know what the future’s going to be.
