Next Step Connections First Ever Charity Event to Benefit The Million Tree Project
June, 2010
Thursday, June 24th, 2010—Professional internship program organization, Next Step Connections (NSC), hosted their annual networking event for their company partners and young professionals at the Velvet Lounge. This China-based company was founded in 2007 and has since helped over 300 students and young professionals begin their careers through hands-on, real-life, and studies-related internship programs.
The meet-and-greet event hosted by NSC brought this year’s participating companies and young professionals together to enjoy a night of celebration and to meet others in the program. This year, NSC decided to turn this event to a benefit for the first time ever and selected Shanghai Roots & Shoots as its charity partner. The charity event benefited Shanghai Roots & Shoots’ The Million Tree Project in which RMB 25 of every attendee’s ticket price was donated to purchase one tree in Kulun Qi, Inner Mongolia.
The night was a great success and 150 people attended the event, bringing the total amount raised by NSC to RMB 3,750. During the evening, many attendees, both company representatives and young people alike, stopped by the Shanghai Roots & Shoots booth to learn more about the Million Tree Project’s efforts to stop desertification and lower overall carbon dioxide emissions in China. After hearing more about the devastating environmental problems, several attendees wanted to make a larger contribution and purchased additional trees. At the end of the night, the event helped to secure 186 trees (150 trees from the event, plus 36 trees from additional donations) for the 2011 planting site.
Thank you very much to Next Step Connections and their generous help for The Million Tree Project!
