Shanghai is abuzz with preparations for the upcoming world expo in 2010. Running from May 1st to October 31st 2010, the event is expected to draw more than 70 million visitors, the largest number in any world fair, ever. Under the theme "Better City – Better Life" the expo signifies Shanghai's new status in the 21st century as a major economic and cultural center.
With the Expo site strategically located at the 5.28km2 waterfront area on both sides of the HuangpuRiver, it’s no wonder that 192 countries -from Russia to Thailand- and 50 International organizations have confirmed their participation.
The Chinese government is also working hard in making sure that foreigners will be able to access everything around Shanghai with much ease. Among the countless measures they have taken for the massive urbanization of Shanghai are the constructions of new metro lines, renovations of old buildings and roads, as well as constructions of world-class architectures and pavilions, all set to finish before the opening of the Expo.
With a 150-year history, the Expo is often regarded as the Olympics of economy, science and technology, promoting the exchange of such ideas and development.The event also allows exhibitors to exhibit their achievements and strengthen bilateral ties.
