NSC YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR SUMMER 2010 LECTURERS
Geoff de Freitas
Founder and Managing Director, Shanghai Business Review
Geoff has lived in Shanghai for the past five years where he is CEO and owner of MiddleKingdom Media Ltd, the publisher of Shanghai Business Review magazine, an English language business magazine for senior management of foreign companies in Shanghai. Prior to coming to Shanghai, Geoff was based in Manchester and London, in the United Kingdom, where he was General Manager - Europe, for Newsco Publications, which published the Business Insider magazines and a range of corporate finance publications. He was with the company for three years and was part of the management team that saw the company acquired by Regional Independent Media, one of the UK's largest Newspaper and magazine publishers.
Geoff was born in Trinidad and moved to the United Kingdom at five years old. He was educated at Downside School and has an MA in Philosophy and Psychology from Brasenose College, Oxford.


Joseph Constanty
Co-Founder and CEO, Next Step Directory
Joe is a founding member of the team that developed the original concept and strategy for the most successful entrepreneur networking event in Shanghai, NextStep. With the launch of NextStepDirectory.com in June 2008 Joe’s team initiated a dynamic business model set to capture revenue from three touch points. Joe was also previously the Director and Co-Owner of Tangential Consulting, a Chinese foreign invested enterprise (WFOE). Joe guided the company through its initial investment and funding cycle while simultaneously organizing the government registration process. Tangential Consulting was aligned with strategic Chinese owned companies to establish both entertainment and education companies, including Lucky Greens Golf, LexDex.com, NextStep Shanghai, and NextStepDirectory.com.


Mark Secchia
Entrepreneur and Founder of Sherpas
Mark is a Michigan native who followed his high school sweetheart to China where she was teaching English and ended up doing his MBA at the China-Europe International Business School in Pudong. It was during the course of that MBA program that Mark and two of his classmates turned a mandatory internship into a viable business.In February 2000 Sherpas was born. Sherpas works with over 100 restaurants in Shanghai as their home delivery agents and also delivers other desirable commodities such as groceries, flowers, and liquor. In the 10 years since it founding, Sherpas now has estimated revenues of over $6 million and is seen as a leading foreign owned startup in Shanghai.


Sunny Liew
Shanghai liaison officer for Sovereign Group
Sunny qualified as a Barrister at Gray’s Inn in 1993 and is called to the Bars of Malaysia and Singapore . He has practiced as an Advocate and Solicitor in Malaysia since 1994 in various areas of corporate, securities, shipping, property and banking laws. Sunny assists inbound investors with tax planning, corporate affairs and investment strategies.


Bradley A. Feuling
Entrepreneur and Co-Founder, Kong and Allan Group
Brad brings a rich expertise in business development for early stage ventures, having worked with over 50 start-up companies, including the founders of LendingTree.com and Hat World, Inc. Brad was mentored by best-selling author Jim Collins (Built to Last and Good to Great) while working on the Measures of Success project, which has sold over 28,000 copies. In 2007, Brad moved to Shanghai and has served as the Chief Executive Officer of Kong and Allan (Shanghai) Consulting Co. Ltd. Kong and Allan Consulting is a division of the Kong and Allan Group and was named the 2009 Best Supply Chain Consulting Partner in Asia. Currently, Brad is also a Distinguished Guest Professor at the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade


Kelley Lee
Entrepreneur and restaurateur
At 31, Kelley Lee is part-owner of five food establishments in Shanghai and has over 80 people reporting to her. This is not unusual in China except for the fact that she’s a woman, and a foreignerIn September 2005, just one year after she arrived, they opened Iiiit! Café, a modern café specializing in fresh casual gourmet. She learned the tricks to the trade quickly and opened another establishment the next year, then three in the following two years…… Add Kelley's restaurants to the itinerary next time you're in Shanghai: Cantina Agave Taqueria & Tequila Bar; Boxing Cat Brewery; Closed Door; iiit Cafe.

 

Program components

Program component 1: Core Entrepreneurship Workshop (30hours)

Entrepreneurship workshops will be taught by veteran university teachers and local entrepreneurs. Workshop includes turning a business idea into a business plan, pitching to investors, market research...

Program component 2:  Business module (18hours)

Business classes will be taught by veteran business/finance university teachers. Classes include resume building, Chinese business culture, international business, introduction to marketing, introduction to Finance....

Program component 3: Mandarin Lessons (40hours)

Chinese classes will be taught by local University teachers.

Week end Excursions/activities includes: Expo 2010 Site, Zhouzhuang famous water town, Urban Planning Center, Shopping at the Fabric Market, Acrobats Show, World Financial Center and more.

Program Schedule

Arrival, transfer to housing, check-in and orientation

All program participants must arrive in Shanghai on Saturday 3rd July 2010.

Program dates

Classes and Workshops will start on Monday 5th July 2010 and will finish on Thursday 29th July 2010

Closing event with our panel of local entrepreneurs and investors: Friday 30th July 2010

Check-out and transfer to airport: Saturday 31st July 2010.
